Maple Syrup for Pancakes, Waffles, and …….. Crystals By : Darain Huff Date : 12/5/14

My Science Question How does the temperature [ hot, cold, room] affect the maple syrup crystal size ?

Why I chose my project I chose my project because, I have heard of syrup crystals before. The crystals sounded cool to try to make. I have never seen any kind of crystal before and wanted to know what they looked like.

Variables Independent:The temperature of the crystal cooling Dependent: size of crystal Constant: amount of syrup, size of pan, syrup brand

Hypothesis If you test how temperature affects maple syrup crystal size then cold temperatures will make the crystals bigger. winner losers

Items used 3 muffin pans refrigerator maple syrup lamp an adult 1 cup measurer

Data 0 crystals formed 0 crystals 0 crystal formed formed Under lamp Room temp. Freezer temp. 0 crystals formed 0 crystals formed 0 crystal formed

. Conclusion How does temperature affect the maple syrup crystal size ? I took 3 pans with solid ice and poured maple syrup on all 3 pans. Place one pan in the freezer. Put pan 2 on a kitchen table. Put pan 3 under a lamp. Then wait two hours. No cyrastals were formed. My hypateis was no correct because, I thought that in the coolder tempetures would make bigger cyrastals but no cyrastals were form at all. I learnd that it is very hard to form cyrsals. No cyrsatals formed and I ould have used a butter pan.
