Colorfully Colored 9-4 project 2 9-4 project 2

Purpose My purpose is to see do different colors absorb different amounts of heat. My purpose is to see do different colors absorb different amounts of heat.

Hypothesis My hypothesis is that the green t-shirt will absorb the most heat because it is the darkest color t-shirt. I think that the orange t-shirt will absorb the least amount of heat because it is the brightest t-shirt. 4 Materials The supplies I used were: The supplies I used were: 3 different color t-shirts (red, orange, green) 3 different color t-shirts (red, orange, green) a heat lamp a heat lamp Thermometer Thermometer Pencil Pencil paper paper

Method Part 1-Trial 1 Part 1-Trial 1 1)Gathered all material (fabric, ect.) 1)Gathered all material (fabric, ect.) 2)Cleared work place 2)Cleared work place 3)Attached heat lamp to the table 3)Attached heat lamp to the table 4)Placed Green t-shirt under heat lamp 4)Placed Green t-shirt under heat lamp 5)I put the thermometer in the t-shirt 5)I put the thermometer in the t-shirt 6)Turned heat lamp on 6)Turned heat lamp on 7)Waited 33 minutes 7)Waited 33 minutes 8)Measured temperature 8)Measured temperature 9)Recorded data 9)Recorded data Repeat steps 4-9 for other 2 t-shirts Repeat steps 4-9 for other 2 t-shirts Repeat all steps for trial 2 Repeat all steps for trial 2

Variables  The control variables for an experiment are the things that remain the same. The control variables that I have identified for my experiment include:  The same heat lamp  The same thermometer  The same fabric  The same amount of time under the heat lamp

Manipulated Variables  The manipulated variables are things that change. For this experiment the manipulated variable would be the:  The color of the fabric used in my project

Responding Variables  The responding variables are things that result from the changes in the manipulated variables.  The responding variable is the temperature of the different colored t-shirts after 33 minutes.

Analysis Trial 2

Conclusion The purpose of my project was to see which color fabric red green or orange absorbed the most heat. My results showed that by using a heat lamp and different colors that green was the most absorbent of heat at 33 degrees Celsius because it is the darkest color t-shirt. My results also showed that orange was the least absorbent of heat because it is the brightest t- shirt. My hypothesis was that the green t-shirt will absorb the most heat and the orange t-shirt will absorb the least heat was correct. 14 Sources of Error Sources of error that could have caused my results to be inaccurate are: My t-shirts were not the same brand name or exact size The heat lamp could have moved between trials The room temp. may have been different for each trial The room temp. may have disrupted the heat from the lamp towards the color of the shirt. The sunlight was different for each trial it could have caused my final result to be changed.

Ways to Improve If I was going to do this project again next time I could: If I was going to do this project again next time I could: Buy the same brand name t-shirts Buy the same brand name t-shirts Use more t-shirt colors Use more t-shirt colors Use different temperatures Use different temperatures Use different amounts of time Use different amounts of time Have a controlled room temp. Have a controlled room temp. Close the blinds so the sun doesn’t interfere Close the blinds so the sun doesn’t interfere
