TORNADOES! Vocabulary of the Week This presentation demonstrates the new capabilities of PowerPoint and it is best viewed in Slide Show. 1 Damage Define: injury or harm that happens to something Example: The storm caused some damage to the tree Ask: What kind of damage can happen to a house?

2 Dangerous Define: not safe; could harm you Example: It is dangerous to go outside during a thunderstorm. Ask: What is the opposite of dangerous?

3 Destroy Define: to break something so it cannot be used anymore. Example: The puppy can destroy your shoes by chewing on them. Ask: What is the opposite of destroy? 3

4 Event Define: something that happens. Example: The party was a fun event with food and games. Ask: Tell about an event you have been to.

5 Harsh Define: something that is difficult and does not feel good. Example: The desert is a harsh place to live. Ask: Name another harsh place to live.

6 Prevent Define: to stop something from happening. Example: You should wash your hands to prevent sickness. Ask: How can you prevent yourself from being late to school?

Warning 7 Define: something that lets people know that something dangerous may happen. Example: Dark clouds are a warning that a storm is coming. Ask: What are some other warnings that tell you a storm is coming?

8 Weather Define: what the air is like at a certain place and time. Example: The weather outside is warm and humid. Ask: What do you think the weather is like in another part of the world?
