Presentation transcript:

Scene I: The Garden of Eden

Scene I: The Garden of Eden And the Lord God commanded the man, saying, “You may surely eat of every tree of the garden, 17 but of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil you shall not eat, for in the day that you eat of it you shall surely die.” Genesis 2:16

Scene II: The Fall

Scene II: The Fall The serpent questions God. They ate of the fruit and knew shame and guilt for the first time. Adam blames Eve, Eve blames the serpent. Eve admits to being deceived.

Scene III: The Curse

Scene III: The Curse To the Serpent: “Because you have done this, cursed are you above all livestock and above all beasts of the field; on your belly you shall go, and dust you shall eat all the days of your life. 15 I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and her offspring; he shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise his heel.” Genesis 3:14-15

Scene III: The Curse To Eve: “I will surely multiply your pain in childbearing; in pain you shall bring forth children. Your desire shall be contrary to your husband, but he shall rule over you.” Genesis 3:16

Scene III: The Curse To Adam: “Because you have listened to the voice of your wife and have eaten of the tree of which I commanded you, ‘You shall not eat of it,’ cursed is the ground because of you; in pain you shall eat of it all the days of your life; 18 thorns and thistles it shall bring forth for you; and you shall eat the plants of the field. 19 By the sweat of your face you shall eat bread, till you return to the ground, for out of it you were taken; for you are dust, and to dust you shall return.” Genesis 3:17-19

Scene III: The Curse All of these consequences are the result of sin and rebellion against God. Adam and Eve are driven out of Eden. Adam’s sin is passed down to all of humanity.

Scene III: The Curse …just as sin came into the world through one man, and death through sin, and so death spread to all men because all sinned… Romans 5:12

The Promise of Gospel Hope I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and her offspring; he shall bruise your head, and you shall bruise his heel. Genesis 3:15

Who is the ‘he’ in that verse? Answer: The woman’s offspring Genesis 3:15 Who is the ‘he’ in that verse? Answer: The woman’s offspring

Genesis 3:15 Who is the ‘he’ in that verse? Answer: The woman’s offspring Who is the ‘your’ in that verse? Answer: The Serpent

Scene IV: Nazareth

Scene IV: Nazareth More than 4,000 years pass An angel appears to a virgin who was engaged to be married…

Scene IV: Nazareth Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. 31 And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus. 32 He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. Luke 1:30

Scene IV: Nazareth “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you; therefore the child to be born will be called holy—the Son of God. Luke 1:35

Scene IV: Nazareth Could this be the one that is going to crush the serpent? Could this child be the one that the serpent lies in wait for, to crush and to strike?

Scene V: Bethlehem

Scene V: Bethlehem And while they were there, the time came for her to give birth. 7 And she gave birth to her firstborn son and wrapped him in swaddling cloths and laid him in a manger… Luke 2:6-7

Scene V: Bethlehem 11 “For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is Christ the Lord. 12 And this will be a sign for you: you will find a baby wrapped in swaddling cloths and lying in a manger.” Luke 2:11-12

Scene V: Nazareth The offspring of the woman promised in Genesis 3:15 has finally been born! This child is Emmanuel – God with us, God in the flesh. This child is not cursed with the sin of Adam. He is fully God and fully man. He is the promised Messiah. Hope for victory over the serpent has come!

Imagine: Imagine a world with no hope. Imagine if the Christ child had never come, never been born? Imagine a world with no hope. There may be people with no hope in this world, but make no mistake that hope has come to this world.

And it came through the Christ child! Remember! God always has a plan of hope and victory! And it came through the Christ child!
