Term Definition Metric System A decimal system of weights and measures used around the world especially in science. Kilo- Prefix for thousand Centi- Prefix for 1/100 (one one-hundredth) Milli- Prefix for 1/1000 (one one-thousandth) Volume The number of cubic units an object occupies. Mass The amount of matter an object contains. Weight The force with which gravity pulls on an object. Meter The base unit of LENGTH in the metric system. Liter The base unit of VOLUME in the metric system. Matter Anything that has mass and takes up space. Density Mass divided by volume. Gram ****already defined in glossary!!!
