Proverbs Godly wisdom is the best guide for building a life of goodness and integrity. Therefore, wisdom should be pursued above all else. It has many themes like prudence, peer pressure, sleep, fear, peace, work. The wisdom it contains is a blessing and not a burden. Adultery, temptation, human trafficking, sexual sin and discipline. Sexual immorality will always lead to suffering for at least one party involved. Pornography is damaging to ourselves and to others around the world. We all need methods for avoiding temptation and these must be built into our lives and practiced deliberately.

Chapters 8-9

Wisdom & Folly Wisdom - feminine pronouns Proverbs 1:20–21 Wisdom inviting us to find her and in doing so receive the Lord’s favour (8:33–35) Folly is presented throughout the book of Proverbs as wisdom’s counterpart. A female character, an adulterous or wayward woman who preys on foolish men who allow their appetites and desires to rule them.

Wisdom & Folly Wisdom is portrayed as a companion who will lead people to prosperity (8:21), Folly is said to lead the unsuspecting to their death (Proverbs 9:18).

Wisdom & Folly Sometimes choosing between right and wrong is hard, even when the wiser of the choices is obvious. There are times in our lives when the wise decision and the foolish decision may be difficult to discern.

Wisdom & Folly Folly and wisdom are presented as doing similar things. Both set themselves in the high places of the city (8:2; 9:14). Both call out for the simple to come to their respective houses (9:4, 16).

Wisdom & Folly This is why it is important to pursue wisdom early in our lives. The more time we spend learning wisdom, the easier it will be to make wise choices when the right course of action may not always be obvious or easy.

Wisdom & Folly Wisdom and folly both call loudly, and both can look appealing if we do not practice wisdom. As we grow in wisdom, it will become easier to approach situations with discipline and discernment. We will have the discipline to make the right decision even when the wrong one looks appealing. Our ability to judge and be discerning will grow and we will know when to put on the brakes when the wise choice is not always apparent.

Proverbs 8 & 9 Take the time needed to ensure that you are pursuing wisdom and not your own impulsive desires.

Jesus! If you truly want to gain Godly wisdom and knowledge and understanding you need to know Jesus. Jesus, by His Spirit needs to dwell in you, You need to abide in Him. Only then can we be truly wise.
