Setting The setting takes place in Verona. Verona is also the place where Romeo was Banished from A part of the play takes place in Mantua

Characters Romeo: a young Montague who falls in love with Juliet Juliet : a young Capulet who falls in love with Romeo Balthasar : Romeo servant, who tells Romeo that Juliet had died Benvolio : a cousin and friend of Romeo Friar John : an associate of Friar Lawrence, who never gets to deliver the message of Juliet’s death to Romeo Friar Lawrence : a Franciscan friar, friend to both Romeo and Juliet. Friar Lawrence secretly marries Romeo and Juliet Lady Capulet : Juliet’s mother she is eager to see her daughter marry Paris Lady Montague : Romeos mother she dies after finding out her son had been banished from Verona Lord Capulet : Juliet’s father and enemy of Lord Montague Lord Montague : Romeos father and enemy of Lord Capulet Mercutio : a kinsman to the Prince, and Romeo’s close friend Nurse : Juliet’s nanny Paris : a young man who wants to marry Juliet Prince Escalus : Prince and ruler of Verona Rosaline : the woman with whom Romeo is infatuated at the beginning of the play. Conflict/Resolution Conflict: Man Vs. Man – Romeo is against Paris and loves Juliet more then him Man Vs. Society – Romeo got banished from Verona Resolution: The resolution of the play is, because of the death of Romeo and Juliet the two families decide to end the ongoing feud against each other. They decide to build gold statues in honor of Romeo and Juliet.

Plot The plot of the play is, two lovers fall deeply in love with each other but both of there families have an ongoing feud with each other causing Romeo and Juliet to not get married. Romeo kills Tybalt in a scene of the play causing Tybalt to die and also causing Romeo to be banished from Verona. Romeo and Juliet secretly get married Juliet takes a potion giving to her by Friar causing her to fall into a deep sleep, but make people think she is actually dead on the day of her wedding with Paris. Juliet is then brought to the tomb thinking that Romeo will come for her, when he actually doesn’t know she is there because Friar never gets to deliver the message to him. Romeo finds Juliet eventually, but also running into Paris, and causing Romeo to die. Juliet wakes up from her deep sleep for many hours to find Romeo dead next to her and she then decided to kill herself also. The two families learned and decided to end the feud and build gold statues in honor of Romeo and Juliet.

Sequence of Major Events Act 1 Scene 1: Capulets and Montague fight and the Prince gets mad Act 1 Scene 5: Romeo and Juliet meet and fall in love Act 2 Scene 3: Romeo and Juliet talk on the balcony Act 2 Scene 3: Romeo goes to Friar and asks him to marry him and Juliet and he agrees hoping to end the family feud Act 2 Scene 6: Romeo and Juliet get married Act 3 Scene 1: Tybalt and Mercutio fight and Tybalt kills him then Romeo and Tybalt fight and Romeo kills Tybalt then the prince banishes him Act 3 Scene 4: Lord Capulet agrees to marriage of Paris and Juliet and wants them to get married in 3 days Act 4 Scene 1: Friar Laurence makes the plan for Juliet to drink a sleeping drug to escape the wedding Act 5 Scene 3: Romeo kills Paris at the tombs, then he drinks the poison and kills himself. Juliet wakes up and sees Romeo is dead then kills herself with a knife. The whole situation makes the Capulets and Montagues want to end there feud and build gold statues in memory

Plot Diagram Falling Action Rising Action Resolution Exposition The capulets think that Juliet is getting “married” but they really don’t know she is married to Romeo and they don’t know that she is planning on faking a death and is planning on having Romeo come for her but the Friar never delivers the message. The capulets find Juliet “dead” and she is brought to the tomb. Where she waits for Romeo .. Who never shows up. Romeo and Juliet fall in love but since there in love they have to plan on secretly get married Falling Action Rising Action Exposition Resolution Romeo wants to marry Rosaline but Rosaline doesn’t want to marry Romeo and doesn’t love him Juliet and Romeo both die and both there families decide to end there ongoing feud and build gold statues in there memory
