Netiquette: How to Behave Online

How do we use Netiquette? Treat others how you want to be treated Don’t tell lies about anyone, anything, or yourself Respect people’s privacy!

No text language or all caps when writing emails Ask permission before posting Remember the internet is NOT private!

Copyright Laws

What is a copyright? A law that protects people’s products from being stolen.

How do we respect copyright laws? No copies without permission Only use 30 seconds of a song Only use 30 minutes of a movie Give credit to the author!

Rules about Photocopy Copying for personal use is fine Giving copies to classmates is not

What is “Fair Use”? Part of someone’s work can be used without permission

What is Public Domain? Being available to everyone Not subject to copyright

Let’s talk about Safety!

Tell a teacher, or parent when: Someone makes you uncomfortable A stranger messages you Someone asks you for personal information Unwanted sites pop up

How to stay safe: Stay away from chat rooms Don’t give away personal info Make strong passwords No downloads without permission
