Presentation transcript:

A cell is like a…. expectations You are inviting to members who may want to join your group Your groups are only groups of 3 NO LARGER You remain with your group at all times while working You are not talking to other groups You are not wandering around my classroom You and your group members invest your best work- You must WOW me to get an A You stay on task and on topic You may talk as you work on drafting- but brainstorming and idea projection should solely be coming up with ideas

A Cell is like a…. All of the organelles must work together in a cell to help it stay alive!!!!! Your job is to make an analogy comparing a cell and its working parts (organelles) to another Item that has smaller working parts Possible ideas: ( whatever you want!!!) A school: Brainstorm 10 other ideas- DO not use the school like I did.

Design Thinking Process 7 minutes- just coming up with comparison ideas- as many as you can 3 minutes- love /hate/ not possible/get 12 minutes- developing 2 ideas Pick an idea and get started with sentences (15 min) see next slide Make a rough sketch of your picture Start on final copy

Example Analogy sentence requirements Organelle, Comparison, function/why. A Cell is like a city: 1. The Nucleus is like City Hall because the nucleus is the control center of the cell and city hall is the government for a city. 2. The Golgi Body is like the post office because the Golgi packages and transports materials in the cell like a post office in a city

Requirements You must have a picture, colored, neat, labeled- With organelle and comparison You must write a sentence on the back of the poster explaining why each organelle is like the thing you compared it to. (10 sentences total) You must use the following organelles: 1. Cell (Plasma) Membrane___ 2. Cell Wall___ 3. Chloroplast___ 4. Mitochondria ___ 5. Nucleus___ 6. Ribosomes___ 7. Endoplasmic Reticulum___ 8. Vacuole___ 9. Golgi Complex___ 10. Lysosomes___ TITLE: A Cell is like a….. Labels: organelles and comparisons Pictures: colorful, neat Sentences: written neatly on the back or attached on a separate sheet of paper

Note to self Steps: Brainstorm 10 + systems (hospital, house, store, etc) Narrow down Stars/Questions *= I think this will work ?= not sure we can get this one Develop 1 large idea Prototype- rough draft/ 10 sentences Final poster
