Notes on Homer

Debated: Was Homer the only author or were their multiple authors? Historical Question Debated: Was Homer the only author or were their multiple authors?

What we can infer about Homer Born somewhere in western Asia Minor (maybe Turkey?) Reportedly blind, but some scholars think this was praise of his wisdom. Many Greek stories contain blind people with great insight (a quality that was admired) Probably heard the bards sing about the war. Wrote the Iliad in the 700s BC His poems were used in education. Kids memorized them. Passed on knowledge about early Greek culture Gods, goddesses, truths about humans and the universe
