National Scholarship Recipient Chassidy Mitchell is a graduate of Henry W. Grady High School in Atlanta, GA with a 4.0 GPA. Having teachers that care about students who want to learn, and being provided with the tools necessary to learn has brought her a long way. It is because of Chassidy’s passion to learn that she has been inspired to teach others, and hopes to someday be an educator that persuades future students to seek knowledge from an early age just as she did. Throughout high school Chassidy maintained her rank in the top 10% all four years while also serving as Editor-in-Chief of her school’s yearbook staff, an active Student Government representative, and a National Honors Society member. Aside from her education, she is involved in a plethora of organizations. The Girl Scouts, 21st Century Leaders, Elizabeth Baptist Church’s Youth Choir and a charter member of the National Association of Negro Business and Professional Women’s Club Inc. Greater Atlanta Youth club. Since becoming a Girl Scout at age four, Chassidy has regularly taken on many community service projects. As a recipient of the Girl Scout’s Bronze, Silver, and Gold award she has already organized and implemented several community involvement projects that had a tremendous impact on kids in need in Atlanta. Mid-Atlantic District Hello, I’m Alexis Gerald of the Frederick Youth Club   Alexis Gerald is a graduate of Tuscarora High School in Frederick, MD. She is the daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Darren Gerald. She serves as a Co-President of the Frederick Youth club and has been a member for four years. Ms. Gerald has been on the Honor Roll from 2007- 2012. She has received an Academic Achievement Award 2010-2011, an Athletic Achievement Award 2010-2011. She’s experienced in public speaking, has great leadership skills and has studied Culinary Arts at the Career and Technology Center. Mid-Atlantic District Hi, I am Maya Pickens of the Frederick Youth Club Maya Pickens is a graduate of Tuscarora High School (THS) in Frederick, MD. She is the daughter of Mr. & Mrs. Ricardo Pickens. She has been a member of B&P since 2006 and has served as the club’s historian. She received the Outstanding Youth of the Year (2012) given by National Association of Negro Business and Professional Women’s Club Inc. (NANBPWC, Frederick MD Club). Among her accomplishments is that she is the recipient of the Theodore Stephens Honor roll award given by Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity (Frederick MD chapter ), 2012 All-Area Field Hockey First team and the 2012 All- Gazette Field Hockey team.   She is involved with the Hands of Praise sign language group FMBC, Dance Ministry FMBC, Membership in Tuscarora National Honors Society (THS), Fellowship of Christian Athletes (THS), Environmental Club (THS), 2012 Rotary Youth Leadership Program, and the RYLA 2013 Conference. This fall she will be attending McDaniel College in Westminster, MD studying exercise science. Mid-Atlantic District

North Central District Hi, I am Aa’Liyah Nixon of the Greater Lansing Youth Club . Aa”Liyah Aa’Liyah C. Nixon is a graduate of J.W. Sexton High School. She has a 3.202 GPA and will be attending Lansing Community College majoring in Pre-Med. She has been an active member of the Greater Lansing Area NANBPW Youth Club since 2006. She is currently serving her second term as Club President. Aa’Liyah has broadened her knowledge and life experiences through years of training and volunteer service because of the Club. She has attended, participated and received training at several Northern Area Meetings, North Central District Conferences and National Conventions. Aa’Liyah is an active member of Friendship Baptist Church. She has helped with Children’s Church, Vacation Bible School, was active in Sunday School programs and served as hostess for other programs and functions. She has helped to provide child care for babies and young children in the family. She is a member of several groups/organizations: 2007-2008 a member of the junior advisory board; 2011-present member of Sisterhood; 2012-present member of the Drama Club and Inducted into the International Thespian Club; 2012-present member of Youth Advisory Board of Pregnancy Prevention Partnership. She is a writer and photographer for the School Newspaper The Zodiac; She is also the recipient of an Academic Sports letter for Tennis and was named the Twelfth Grade Student of the Month in February, 2012. North Central District Hi, I am LaDon Nixon from the Greater Lansing Youth Club LaDon LaDon Nixon II is a graduate of the J.W. Sexton High School in Lansing, MI, and will be attending Lansing Community College in the fall. LaDon has been an active member of the GLAC Youth Club since it was reactivated in 2005. He served as Chaplain for two years and is currently the Vice President. He enjoys the programs and community service along with lessons learned through his Club travels to District and National Conventions. He received the 2012 Lansing Youth On The Move Award from the Greater Lansing Area Club.   He has competed in a variety of sports since grade school - Soccer, Floor Hockey, Basketball, Football and Track. He is the recipient of several certificates, trophies and medals for his excellence in those sports, including the Defensive Rookie of the year in football during the 2011 season and Honorable Mention All Conference Award in the Capital Area Activities Conference. LaDon was also privileged to be a part of the Class B State Championship Basketball team [J.W. Sexton] in March, 2011. And proudly wears the championship ring. In the summer of 2011 he was selected to attend the 4th and One Football Camp at Michigan State University. The camp focused on enhancing football player techniques with a strong emphasis on SAT/ACT testing and academics. He has numerous medals for his successes in track events: high jump, discus, shot put and relay. At the end of the 2012 football season, LaDon received the Captains Award, Hitman Award, 2012 Player of the Year and Capital Area Activities Conference All Conference Team Award. LaDon is a member of Friendship Baptist Church and throughout his short years has been a member of the children's choir, participated in Sunday School and Sunday School programs, Vacation Bible School and Children's/Youth church. North Central District Hi, I’m D’Vaughn McGill From the Toledo Youth Club D’Vaughn McGill graduated from Achieve Academy on June 6, 2013. He received the President’s Scholar Award for his academic achievement.   D’Vaughn has been a member of the Toledo Youth Club for 6 years. He has attended 4 Area Meetings, 4 North Central District Conferences, and 1 National Conference. D’Vaughn has also participated on the programs at the Youth Breakfast at the District Conference, and the Youth Luncheon at the National Convention. As a member of the Toledo Youth Club, D’Vaughn has been involved in various community service projects such as the Northwest Ohio Food Bank, Adopt a Family, Global Youth Service Day, the Intergenerational Project, and Family House Homeless Shelter Sock Drive. D’Vaughn plans to pursue a career as a professional chef. North Central District

North Central District Hi, I am Derick Smith from the Toledo Youth Club Derick Smith graduated from Emanuel Christian School. He participated in the school’s band and choir. Additionally, he received Varsity letters in Basketball and Track and Field.   Derick has been a member of the Toledo Youth Club for six years. He has attended 3 Area Meetings, 4 North Central District Conferences, and 3 National Conventions. He has also participated on the program at the North Central District Youth Breakfast. As a member of the Toledo Youth Club, Derick has been involved in numerous community service projects such as Adopt a Family, Global Youth Service Day, the Intergenerational Project, and Family House Homeless Shelter Sock Drive. Derick is very interested in technology. Actually, his goal is to become the next great innovator in technology. He plans to attend the University of Toledo and major in Computer Technology. Central Jersey Youth Club for five years. She served as the Parliamentarian and 2nd Vice President. In the fall she will be attending Howard University. Northeast District

Hello, I’m Corine Jackman of the Mid-Island Beta-Psi Cluster Corine Jackman graduated from Howard University in May 2013 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering. At Howard University, she served as president of Tau Beta Pi, the Engineering Honor Society where one of her most exciting projects was called MindSET, a program that taught engineering, math and science to high school students in Washington, D.C. Corine conducted research at Howard University and with Corning Inc. in environmental technologies, and completed her second internship at Merck & Co Inc. in reliability engineering. Aside from school and research, as a member of the Mid-Island Beta-Psi cluster, Corine participated in UN Youth day and gave a presentation on entrepreneurship. Corine enjoys playing the piano, listening to music, exercising, and reading books. She is excited about attending the University of Michigan as a Ph.D. candidate in Chemical Engineering as she pursues her research interests in bio-molecular and cellular engineering. Watkins Ashley Watkins graduated from Nassau Community College, magna cum laude, with her Associates in Accounting (AS) in May 2013. Ashley has been a member of the National Association of Negro Business and Professional Women’s Club Inc. for five years. She is the acting president of the Mid-Island Beta Psi Cluster. She will be continuing her studies at Baruch College in the Fall of 2013. While at this institution she will be majoring in Accounting and minoring in Spanish. Her career aspirations are to become a CPA at one of the big four accounting firms and to also become a corporate lawyer. Northeast District

Hi, I am Sydney Marisa Royce Davis from the Mid-Island Youth Club Sydney Davis is a graduate of St. Anthony’s High School of South Huntington, NY in the top 5% of the class with a 99.8% cumulative average. She has been a member of the Mid-Island Youth Club, NANBPWC, Inc. since 2007 and is currently the President since 2011. She has served as the Secretary, 2009-2011. Sydney plans on attending New York University on a full scholarship as a Dean’s Scholar and Presidential Honors Scholar majoring in Biology as a Pre-Medicine student with aspirations of being a Cardiac Surgeon. She is a member of the Symphonic Band & Touring Orchestra; Model United Nations Club; DECA/ Delta Epsilon Chi; and Kolbe Society, retreat program leader. Her community service activities have been with the Girls Scouts of Suffolk County; Dix Hills Basketball Challenger Program; CARE (Caring Adolescents Reaching Out to the Elderly and Peanut Butter & Jelly Gang. Her honors & awards consist of the National Achievement Scholarship Finalist, 2013; National Honor Society; Foreign Language Honor Society; Mathematics Honor Society; Principal’s Honor Roll, St. Anthony’s High School, 2009-2013; and The President’s Volunteer Service Award, Pres. Hi, I’m Haazig Walker from the Mid-Island Youth Club Haazig has been a member of the Mid-Island Youth Club all throughout high school. He has participated in the V.F.W. Luncheon and Black History Month programs every year. He has been on the many trips with the club, including FIT and the UN. In 2011, he attended the National Convention in North Carolina. That same year, he was chosen to participate in the Johns Hopkins Center for Talented Youth summer program. At school, he was an assistant to the Family Association of Long Island Lutheran. He has been a member of the National Honor Society every year. In his community, he volunteers at his local church’s Christmas Outreach and summer Vacation Bible School programs every year. And states this won’t change even after starting to attend SUNY at Farmindale in August. Northeast District

South Central District Hi, I am Christopher D’Juan Mays from the Dallas Metropolitan Youth Club   Christopher D’Juan Mays is a graduate of South Grand Prairie High School in Grand Prairie, Texas. Christopher is a fifth year member of the Dallas Metropolitan Youth Club, where he has served as club photographer, vice- president, and currently Club President. He is a first place oratorical competitor. Christopher has earned awards at both the district and national levels. He plans to make use of his God-given talents as he majors in Religion and Music at Jarvis Christian College in Hawkins, Texas. South Central District

Jharen is currently serving as The North Texas League Youth President. He has been an active member of NANBPWC, Inc., since the age of 12. While in the club he has held the offices of Vice President and Treasurer. This fall he plans to attend Texas A & M University and majoring in the field of either Business or Engineering. South Central District Keavin Melvin-Jerrell Turner of the North Texas League Youth Club   Keavin Turner is a graduate of Cedar Hill High School in Cedar Hill, Texas. He has been a member of North Texas Business & Professional Women’s League Youth Club from 2010 to present and holds an officer position as Chaplain. In the fall he will be attending Langston University in Oklahoma majoring in Forensic Science or Criminal Justice with a Minor in Business. South Central District

South Central District Hi, I’m Ashanti Patrice Elliott of the South Central Dallas Youth Club   Ashanti P. Elliott is a graduate of James Madison High School of Dallas, Texas. She is the daughter of Mrs. & Mrs. James Elliott. She has only been a member of South Central Dallas Business and Professional Women’s Youth Club for a short time, but she has already learned the importance of Entrepreneurship. She currently serves as the Youth Club calling clerk. This fall she plans to study at Prairie View A & M University where she will continue her goal of going to the United States Navy. Her future plans are to become an officer in the Navy and when she has completed serving our country she will pursue her goal of owning her own hair salon. South Central District

South Central District Hi, I’m Khyala Alexandria Leonard from the South Central Dallas Youth Club   Khyala is a graduate of Skyline High School in Dallas, Texas. She has been a member of the South Central Dallas Youth Club for five years and prior to that she was a youth volunteer. She is currently the Youth Club President and has also served as youth secretary. This fall Khyala plans to attend the University of Houston to study sociology. She is the daughter of Mr. & Mrs. John Kossie. Currently, Arianna serves as the President of the South Dallas BPW Youth Club. Booker T. South Central District Hello, I’m Jazmine L. Potts from the South Dallas Youth Club   Jazmine L. Potts is a graduate of Lancaster High School in Dallas, Texas. She has been a member of the South Dallas Youth Club since 7th grade. During this time Jazmine has held the positions of Financial Secretary, Vice President and Chaplain. Jazmine plans to attend Midwestern State University in Wichita Falls, Texas as a pre-med major. Her desire is to become an anesthesiologist. South Central District

Hi, I’m China Daughtry from the Charlotte Youth Club China graduated from David W. Butler High School in Charlotte, NC. She is the daughter of the late William Daughtry and Angela Tyson Daughtry. She is the granddaughter of William and Sarah Daughtry, the late Rufus and Rosa Scales Tyson and Barbara Jones. China’s achievements includes an outstanding youth award from the National Association of Negro Business and Professional Women’s Club, Inc. (NANBPW). She is a seven year member and serves as Chaplin for the youth chapter of NANBPW Club Inc. She is a member of Love’s Chapel of Belmont, NC, Steel Drums Program. She is a member of: Minority Achievement, Five Star Steppers Program and the Future Soldier Program at Butler High School. She also participated in a special studies Oceanography Program at UNC Charlotte. She earned all fours (perfect score) on her senior project. China dedicated countless hours volunteering through the Susan G. Koman Breast Cancer Walk, the Juvenile Diabetes Walk, the Christmas Bureau and many different shelters and back to school programs. Her hobbies include: caring for animals, playing the steel drums, volleyball, theater, swimming, singing, and designing clothes and accessories. China’s future plans include the United States Armed Forces where she will continue her education in Veterinarian Medicine, becoming Airborne and making her country a better place. Hello, I am E’rica McHam from the Charlotte Youth Club E’rica Angelik McHam graduated from Myers Park High School in Charlotte, NC. She is the daughter of Eric and Angela S. McHam. She is the granddaughter of the late Moselle and Betty Singleton. E’rica also is the granddaughter of Mrs. Jessie Mae Byrd. While attending Myers Park, E’rica was a member of Dance 1 Group. In the fall, E’rica will attend Central Piedmont Community College majoring in Medical Surgical Technology. Southeast District
