Simple Machines & Work SPI 0707.11.1 Differentiate between the six simple machines. SPI 0707.11.2 Determine the amount of force needed to do work using different simple machines. Simple Machines and Work
Study Guide KPs 11.1 Lever- increases distance and changes direction. Fulcrum is the point of rotation. Wheel and Axle-Small cylinder inside of a large cylinder. Increases distance. Pulley- a rope and wheel and axle. Used to change direction Inclined Plane- ramp that increases distance Screw- inclined planed wrapped around a cylinder that increases distance. Wedge-two inclined planes to increase distance and change direction.
Study Guide KPs 11.2 Work= Force x distance.
Speed & Motion SPI 0707.11.3 Apply proper equations to solve basic problems pertaining to distance, time, speed, and velocity. Speed and Velocity- They Might Be Giants Calculating Speed- Khan Academy
Study Guide KPs 11.3 Speed- how fast an object is moving. Velocity- how fast an object is moving AND the direction is moving.
Newton’s Laws of Motion SPI 0707.11.4 Identify and explain how Newton’s laws of motion relate to the movement of objects. Newton's Laws Brain Pop
Study Guide KPs 11.4 1st Law-an object will not change what it's doing unless acted on by an unbalanced force. The objects inertia will make it resist the change. 2nd Law- Acceleration depends on the mass of the object, and the amount of force applied. 3rd Law-For every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction.
Waves SPI 0707.11.5 Compare and contrast the different parts of a wave. SPI 0707.11.6 Differentiate between transverse and longitudinal waves in terms of how they are produced and transmitted. Waves BrainPop
Study Guide KPs 11.5 Transverse Wave- Crest (top point), Trough (low point) Longitudinal Wave- Compression (particles are close together) and Rarefraction (particles are spread out)
Study Guide KPs 11.6 Transverse wave- particles move perpendicular to the direction of the wave itself. Longitudinal wave- particles move parallel to the direction of the wave.
