What is Induction? A hybrid fluorescent lamp technology first introduced in 1891 that eliminates the need for electrode and filaments. Light is generated by means of high frequency transmission of energy combined with gas discharge.

1. High frequency energy from electronic ballast (generator), is sent through wires to an inductor wrapped around a section of lamp creating a powerful magnet. 2. The induction coil produces a very strong magnetic field which travels through the glass and excites the mercury. 3. The mercury atoms emit UV light and just as in a fluorescent tube, the UV Light is converted to visible light by the phosphor coating on the inside of the tube.

External Induction Lamp

External induction lamps typically have a life time of 100,000 hours. After time the small percentage of mercury ions are absorbed by the phosphor coating; once the mercury ions inside the envelope are depleted, the lamp emits only a very dim light and it has to be replaced.

Advanced Features of Induction Ultra- High Life High Lighting Efficiency High Color Rendering Index Instant Start High Power Factor High Frequency Operating Low Lamp Lumen Depreciation

How does Induction Compare to HID? The ratio of Scotopic light vs. Photopic light in a lamp is called the S/P ratio. This ratio determines the apparent visual brightness of a light source. Induction Lighting produces a high S/P ratio and this is why the 85W lamp appears brighter to the human eye than a sodium vapor or metal halide of twice the wattage. 150WT HPS 85WT Induction
