Partner Up! With a partner, discuss and answer the following: 1. Identify the 3 main people in this article. What do each of these people symbolize/represent? 2. What was the singular focus of this story? 3. What are 3 key events that help develop this central idea? 4. Why might an author use quotes? Fill out a plot diagram chart and plug in the elements in this article.

Identify the main people in the piece: Kayla; Her coach (Patrick Cromwell) Her doctor (Lucie Lauve). Who can equate these people to?

What was the singular focus of the story? It’s not a biography of Kayla’s entire life. It centers on Kayla’s accomplishments as a runner who has MS.

What are a few key events that develop this central idea? Her diagnosis, Her decision to keep running Her acceptance into college on a running scholarship).

Why might an author use quotes? Quotes act as dialogue to illustrate what the Characters think or feel and make the people seem real.

Get out a sheet of notebook paper and label it Name and “number” Title-
