Why would you want to take this class? For the love of fish, of course! But really… To learn how to identify the fish of the Adirondack region in their natural setting To study the ecological characteristics of Adirondack fishes How? Field investigations Laboratory activities Case studies Scientific inquiry

Course Objectives Learn the freshwater fish species of the Adks through ecological & morphological traits Learn current & historical ecological & management issues that have impacted the Cranberry Lake fisheries Learn about & effectively conduct fish sampling protocols appropriate to specific habitat types (e.g., streams vs. lakes) Use the scientific process to design & implement a project that examines some aspect(s) of Adk fish ecology

Activities Lake & stream fish sampling around CLBS Field trips Ausable River – Lake Placid Wild Center – Tupper Lake Laboratory analyses

Subject to change! Grading & Assignments Field participation 100 Annotated species list 50 Fish Quiz 50 Final Exam 100 Group Project 100 TOTAL 400 (100%) Subject to change!
