NC LOCAL GOVERNMENT

Local Government County: the largest territorial and political subdivision of a state Municipality: area in a county (city, town etc) Annexed: area previously unincorporated (not in a municipality) that is incorporated (added to a municipality) Charter: document that grants power to a local government (like a national or state constitution)

County Government Legislative Branch: Board of County Commissioners: group elected to run a county, make laws, & provide for residents Forsyth County Commissioners: 7 members Local Education Authority/Board of Education: elected officials who make decisions regarding public education in an area Executive Branch: County Manager: person hired (NOT ELECTED) to run the day to day operations, oversee departments, and create the budget
