Performing on instruments, alone and with others, a varied repertoire of music. Improvise melodies, variations, and accompaniments. Compose and arrange music within specified guidelines. Read and notate music. Listen to, analyze, and describe music. Evaluate music and music performances. Understand relationships between music, other arts, and disciplines outside the arts.

Choir Course Descriptions Period 1- Treble Choir, Period 2-Mixed Choir, Period 4- Women’s Chorus Period 6-Concert Choir, Period 7- Vocal Techniques These courses promote the enjoyment and appreciation of music through performance of basic, high- quality choral music. Rehearsals focus on the development of critical listening/aural skills; foundational instrumental technique and skills, music literacy, and ensemble skills; and aesthetic musical awareness culminating in periodic public performances. Students in this advanced class refine their musicianship and performance skills on a specified voice. Students prepare for post-secondary and community music experiences and develop artistry independently through a variety of advanced solos, etudes, and excerpts.

Daily Activities PHYSICAL WARM-UP: Moderate stretching and bending exercises will open each rehearsal. The purpose of such exercises is to relax the muscle groups involved in singing. VOCAL WARM-UP: Various exercises will be used to increase vocal range, promote vocal flexibility, improve tone quality, promote consistent vowel production, strengthen pitch concept, and instill breath support. REPERTOIRE: Various musical styles and genres will be introduced. The difficulty level will range from unison to sixteen-part singing and will be determined by the ability of the group.

Daily Activities EAR TRAINING: Students will develop their listening skills through the repertoire. THEORY: Students will learn the theoretical aspects of music, which will provide them with opportunities in compositional analysis and writing. SIGHT-SINGING: Students will be given daily rhythmic and melodic sight-singing material to gradually increase their proficiency level with musical notation. Students will also learn sight-reading through their concert repertoire. HISTORY: Students will learn the historical background and context of the music they perform. Students will also learn about the major musical periods and composers. In addition, students will learn about cultural connections and other influences of music.
