LAU classification Member States send LAU lists annually since 2003 New deadline from 2007: beginning of July (t+6 months) Eurostat has to publish the lists 2006 version is now available on: http://ec.europa.eu/eurostat/ramon/nuts/lau_en.html Statistical data on area and population included from 16-18 countries each year – not published 16/10/2007
LAU level 1 Corresponds to “districts” In some countries, “municipalities” LAU 1 is defined in 19 out of 27 countries In NL and SE, LAU 2 are large and can be used as LAU1 Missing in France, Spain, Italy, Austria, Belgium, Romania Eurostat proposal to promote the LAU 1 by collecting and publishing basic data (area, population) Shall we go ahead with the LAU 1 project despite the missing countries? 16/10/2007
