What is clinical informatics Clinical Informatics is the application of informatics and information technology to deliver healthcare services. It is also referred to as applied clinical informatics and operational informatics. Clinical Informatics is concerned with information use in health care by clinicians. Clinical informatics includes a wide range of topics ranging from clinical decision support to visual images; from clinical documentation to provider order entry systems; and from system design to system implementation and adoption issues.

The Importance of Studying Clinical Implementations” Lisa Schilling MD, MSPH “The Problem with Decisions” Laura Wiley is an Assistant Professor in the Division of Biomedical Informatics and Personalized Medicine and co-Chair of the newly formed Compass Scientific Advisory Board. Her work broadly focuses on harnessing the power of electronic medical records for precision medicine. From computational phenotyping to clinical implementation, her lab’s goal is to help improve patient care by using and applying data, big and small alike. She is also passionate about health policy and its role in enabling and encouraging innovation for patients and healthcare.   Richard Altman is an Assistant Professor of General Internal Medicine at the University of Colorado.  After graduating with an undergraduate computer science degree, Dr. Altman worked as a software developer and consultant for ten years before returning to medical school.  In addition to practicing outpatient Internal Medicine in Lone Tree, CO, Dr. Altman works as a physician builder / developer using the Epic EHR, helping to create innovative products to support clinical needs in Primary Care.
