The Institute for Evidence-Based Change (IEBC) is assisting the MSJC Student Equity Planning Committee with developing the Student Equity Plan and supporting implementation

IEBC brings considerable knowledge, experience, and expertise… working with data bringing research to practice project management

The Student Equity Planning Committee has made great strides this year: Scientifically rigorous assessment of underperforming student groups

Greater accountability Scientifically rigorous assessment of underperforming student groups Greater accountability More accurate More inclusive

The Student Equity Planning Committee has made great strides this year: Scientifically rigorous assessment of underperforming student groups Identifying high impact, research-based practices

Key Actionable Findings from the Data Review  African American students generally lag behind other groups on indicators such as course completion rates, persistence, etc.  Persistence from year to year is low compared to other community colleges – this affects completion rates as well  Students perceive faculty engagement to be low

Response to Equity Findings  Freshman year experience  Professional development for faculty/staff  Mentoring

Outcomes for MSJC A good college getting better All students successfully attaining their academic goals Portends great things ahead
