Supporting a new to MSJC experience New to college or new to MSJC What are you already doing to support an FTIC? Elements of an FYE: At scale – need to develop a plan Defined exemptions Not just an orientation – course based Generally 8-16 weeks Taught by counselors and faculty Best if face-to-face Includes “how to do college”, study habits, career exploration and making a connection with a faculty ad staff member

Defined as: A series of workshops to support faculty in staff in increasing student success What are you already doing to support professional development? Elements of a comprehensive professional development program: Making a connection with students Good practice teaching strategies Distance education engagement strategies Cultural competence

6 Mentoring Defined as: What are you already doing to support mentoring?
Faculty, staff member or trained student that supports students throughout their educational experience at MSJC What are you already doing to support mentoring? Elements of a mentoring program: Based on existing models such as EOPS Begin with FTIC May begin by targeting students Work best when a student is supported beyond their 1st semester or year
