Figure 3 Binding of H. pylori to GPIbα expressed in CHO cells. CHO cells stably transfected with GPIbβ and GPIX were transfected transiently with GPIbα and gently mixed with H. pylori strain 60190. Mock transfected cells showed little binding of an (A ) anti-GPIb antibody and (B) did not bind H. pylori. Cells transfected with GPIbα showed increased binding of the (C ) anti-GPIb antibody and (D) supported binding of H. pylori. Figure 5 The role of specific antibodies in H. pylori-induced platelet aggregation. The addition of pooled Ig and H. pylori to washed platelets caused aggregation to a similar extent as arachidonic acid. Pre-incubation of antibody with the bacteria followed by washing was equally effective. If the antibody was depleted by H. pylori first, aggregation was reduced, whereas depletion by S. sanguis had no effect. An antibody to FcγRIIA inhibited aggregation.
