IB Diploma Programme Grade 11 and 12 Students follow an internationally developed course of study which is consistent around the world Students must complete the grade 9 & 10 Pre-IB Students complete 6 courses of study. All courses have an international final exam, worth 60 - 80% of the final mark Portfolios , commentaries, or projects constitute the remaining percent of the final mark for each of the 6 courses Students must complete two independent essays and volunteer work in creativity, action and service IB Diploma Programme Grade 11 and 12

IB Diploma Curriculum One course from each of 6 subject groups: 3 Higher Level (240 hours each) 3 Standard Level (150 hours each) Courses IB exam in all 6 courses Complete Extended Essay (EE), Theory of Knowledge Essay (TOK), and Creativity, Action, Service Portfolio (CAS) Accumulate 24(min) points total on 6 exams - Exams are scored on a scale of 1 - 7

IB Diploma Curriculum Three subjects at higher level (HL), 240 hours each. Three subjects at standard level (SL), 150 hours each. All three parts of the core: TOK, EE , CAS or Elective

Standard Level Higher Level A Standard Level (SL) course is equivalent to two semesters of coursework. For example: SL Biology is equivalent to: Gr.11 + Gr.12 Biology A Higher Level course (HL) is equivalent to three semesters of coursework. For example: HL Chemistry is equivalent to Gr.11 + Gr. 12 Chemistry + Gr.12 Earth and Space Science

Subjects Offered at ND Group 1- English, Higher Level Group 2- French, Standard Level Group 3- History, Higher Level Group 4 - Chemistry, Higher Level Group 5 - Math, Standard Level Group 6 - Biology or Physics, Standard Level

Evaluation How does IB get a mark out of 7? Each course has an INTERNAL ASSESSMENT (IA) that is evaluated by the teacher and is externally moderated. IB combines the internal assessment mark with the May examination results to obtain the final mark. For example: Chemistry mark = 20% Internal Assessment (IA) + 80% 3 exam papers

Creativity, Action, Service Extended Essay (EE) Creativity, Action, Service (CAS) Theory of Knowledge (TOK) Students develop and investigate a research question of their interest in grade 11 They engage in the writing and research process with the support of an academic advisor to submit the essay one year later in grade 12 Students experience the independent research and writing skills expected at university Encourages students to be involved in artistic pursuits (50 hours), sports (50 hours) and community service (50 hours) Education outside the classroom The emphasis is on learning by doing real tasks that have real consequences for the student and others Explores the nature of knowledge across disciplines Encourages an appreciation of other cultural perspectives Encourages students to explore how they come to acquire knowledge

How does one earn the IB Diploma? • Complete six courses, one from each group • Complete six exams • Complete EE, CAS and TOK • Complete all IB assessments • Accumulate at least 24 points on the exams

IB Diploma and University IB works closely with universities in all regions of the world to gain recognition for the IB diploma: Direct online access for university admissions officers and government officials to syllabuses and recent examination papers A database of university admission policies on www.ibo.org Recognition in over 100 countries Most universities offer scholarships and advanced placement for IB students (Level 6 or 7) From the NCAA Clearinghouse Eligibility Centre: Any student that has attained an IB Diploma automatically qualifies for NCAA Division #1 Athletic. No other prerequisite criteria required

Fees Effective September, 2007 Non-identified students will be charged an annual fee of $1,200.00 in grade 11 and 12 for a total fee of $2,400.00 ($600/term). This fee includes registration fees, examination fees, textbooks/materials, students’ assessment/examination mailing/courier costs. Identified students will still be expected to pay for examination fees and assessment/examination mailing/courier costs. (Grade 11 approx. $450.00, Grade 12 approx. $540.00 ) Letter is forthcoming regarding fee payment schedule…..
