Story by Jasmine Obasogie The Hurtful Website Story by Jasmine Obasogie

Once upon a time, there was a girl named Haley Once upon a time, there was a girl named Haley. She was very nice, and welcoming to everyone she met.

All the students at school wanted to sit next to her at lunch because she was very talented and she told funny jokes.

But not everyone liked Haley But not everyone liked Haley. A group of popular girls were jealous of Haley. In fact, they spread rumors about her just to get attention.

But then, the popular girls decided to do something worse than the rumors. They secretly devised a plan to make a website about Haley and share rumors and secrets where everyone could see it. Let’s make a hurtful website about Haley. Yes, let’s do it. That will show her. Just wait till Haley sees this…

A few days later, Haley goes on the computer to check her e-mail A few days later, Haley goes on the computer to check her e-mail. When she logs on, she notices that a classmate sent her an e-mail. She figured that it was about homework. But when she clicks on the e-mail…

What? Why did someone make a website about me? She finds a website! But it wasn’t any ordinary website. This website was about her! Haley was astonished! Why would someone do such a horrible thing? What? Why did someone make a website about me?

The next day at school, students were teasing Haley The next day at school, students were teasing Haley. Many kids laughed at her. Others talked behind her back. And one kid made a sign to embarrass her! Haley’s day was turning into a nightmare!

Well, Haley decided to take matters in her own hands Well, Haley decided to take matters in her own hands. She had to stop this hurtful teasing. So, she went to the principal.

At the principal’s office, Haley explained about the website and how everyone was teasing her. Principal Davis asked if she knew who created the website. Haley said she didn’t know, so they went online to see if they could find some clues.

“Look,” said Principal Davis. “I recognize those names “Look,” said Principal Davis. “I recognize those names. I think these girls are the ones that created the website. I hate to say this, but they just cyberbullied you publicly.”

“Cyberbullied. ” said Haley. “What do you mean “Cyberbullied?” said Haley. “What do you mean?” Since this never happened to Haley, she didn’t know what cyberbullying was. What is cyberbullying?

“Well, cyberbullying is when someone uses an electronic device to embarrass, hurt, threaten, or harass someone else,” said Principal Davis.

“So, cyberbullying is a way to make people feel bad online “So, cyberbullying is a way to make people feel bad online?” said Haley. “Well, not just online,” said Principal Davis. “Cyberbullies can send you mean text messages, make a website about you, and they can also prank phone call you.” Examples of cyberbullying: mean e-mails, hurtful website, mean text messages, prank phone calls, and embarrassing photos uploaded for people to see.

“So, does cyberbullying effect people’s reputation. ” asked Haley “So, does cyberbullying effect people’s reputation?” asked Haley. “Yes, cyberbullying effects many people’s reputations. They lose self esteem, and many kids hurt themselves because of cyberbullying.” replied Principal Davis.

“Are there any consequences to cyberbullying. ” Haley asked “Are there any consequences to cyberbullying?” Haley asked. “Oh, yes there are many consequences to cyberbullying. You could be suspended or expelled from school, lose computer privileges, pay a fine, and worse: you could go to jail!” said Principal Davis.

Cyberbullying Physical bullying “I don’t understand,” said Haley. “How is cyberbullying worse than physical bullying?” “Well,” said Principal Davis. “In physical bullying, you know who is doing it and those bullies aren’t bullying you 24/7. However, in cyberbullying, you don’t know who’s doing it and cyberbullies can bully you all the time.” Cyberbullying Physical bullying

An e-mail from the principal Soon, after their chat, Principal Davis sent an email to parents about this situation. An e-mail from the principal Dear Parents, A few days ago, a student found a hurtful website about her online. This is an example of cyberbullying and I want to inform you about this, in case your child gets cyberbullied. This is unacceptable. I don’t want this to happen again to anyone else. If you want to talk to me about this, please let me know your schedule. I just don’t want anyone getting cyberbullied and have their feelings hurt publicly where people can see it. Have a good weekend! Principal J. Davis

I hope you learned your lesson, girls. Now, go! So what happened to the popular girls that caused this? Well, Principal Davis talked to them, made them delete the website, and they got suspended for two months! I hope you learned your lesson, girls. Now, go!

Remember, kids: Be a cyber citizen! Don’t cyberbully! Haley was happy again. The students stopped teasing her, and the school went back to normal. The End. Remember, kids: Be a cyber citizen! Don’t cyberbully!
