Lab Exercise: Anatomy of Blood Vessels

Blood Vessel Histology

ARTERY Tunica Externa Tunica Media Tunica Interna: too thin to be seen, but is next to the lumen

VEIN Tunica Media Tunica Externa Tunica Interna: too thin to be seen, but is next to the lumen

Vasa Vasorum Vessels of the Vessels: supplies the walls of blood vessels with blood. Found in the tunica externa of arteries and veins.

Arteries

Right Common Carotid Artery Right Subclavian Artery Brachiocephalic Aortic Arch Ascending Aorta Left Common Carotid Artery Left Subclavian Artery

Aortic Arch Pulmonary Trunk Right Pulmonary Artery Left Pulmonary Artery

Right Subclavian Artery Axillary Artery Brachial Artery Radial Artery Ulnar Artery

Celiac Trunk: superior branch off of the abdominal aorta Celiac Trunk: superior branch off of the abdominal aorta. Branches immediately into the right & left gastric artery, the splenic artery and the common hepatic artery. 2 4 Celiac Trunk (1) Splits into the: Left Gastric Artery (2) Splenic Artery (3) Common Hepatic Artery (4) Right Gastric Artery (5) Renal Artery Abdominal Aorta 3 1 5

Superior Mesenteric Artery Superior Mesenteric Artery: supplies blood to the small intestine, and the 1st half of the large intestine. Gonadal Arteries: supplies blood to the gonads. Inferior Mesenteric Artery: supplies blood to the 2nd half of the large intestine. Superior Mesenteric Artery Gonadal Arteries Inferior Mesenteric Artery

Abdominal Aorta Gonadal Artery Inferior Mesenteric Artery Common Iliac Artery Internal Iliac Artery External Iliac Artery

Femoral Artery Femoral Artery Popliteal Artery Anterior Tibial Artery Posterior Tibial Artery

Veins

Right Brachiocephalic Vein Internal Jugular Vein Right Subclavian Vein Right Brachiocephalic Vein Superior Vena Cava External Jugular Vein Internal Jugular Vein Left Brachiocephalic Vein Left Subclavian Vein

Superior Vena Cava Right Pulmonary Vein Left Pulmonary Vein

Right Subclavian Vein Axillary Vein Cephalic Vein Basilic Vein Median Cubital Vein Cephalic vein

Hepatic Portal Vein: drains the blood of the digestive viscera, spleen and pancreas and delivers it to the liver. The hepatic portal vein receives blood from the Splenic Vein, Superior Mesenteric Vein, Gastric Vein and Inferior Mesenteric Vein. 2 3 1 Hepatic Vein (1) Hepatic Portal Vein (2) Receives blood from the: Gastric Vein (3) Splenic Vein (4) Superior Mesenteric Vein (5) Inferior Mesenteric Vein (6) Renal Vein Inferior Vena Cava 5 4 6
