French Café & German Market Events Preston Street Primary Edinburgh Lorna Macdonald DHT Aims: To trial ML outcome: LAN253 MB (2nd level) To create real contexts for P6 pupils to purposefully use modern languages To involve the community in the life and learning within school To raise money for Link School in Ghana

Empowerment - the pupils: Led event from planning stage; had real say Invited guests from local community; relevant Made décor; personalized Met guests at front door; social skills Entertained guests; cross curricular, fun

Pupil Feedback 1. Main thing I learned- more French from the guests to work together as a team people liked my music be confident ; be patient dont be shy to talk to other people in German working without getting stressed

2. Thing I liked most: being a waitress/ waiter/ showing guests to tables/ my role the decorated hall eating croissants/ the salami / the drinks people that were there/ guests were kind playing music taking part atmosphere

Development for Future: Pupils suggested: –Making more things to sell –Having longer –Using ICT at event eg slideshow on wall Curricular connections: –Plan in more time for cross-cutting opportunities eg writing lessons (before and after event), art & design, maths
