LEVELS OF ORGANIZATION What is a cell? Basic unit of structure and function in organisms. unicellular (made of one cell): bacteria and protists multicellular (made of many cells): fungi, plants, animals Multicellular organisms exhibit cell specialization and take on specific jobs and look different from each other The cells exhibit division of labor and split up the work of the organism. What are tissues? Groups of similar cells that work together to perform a specific function. 4 major tissue types in animals Epithelial tissue Connective tissue Muscle tissue Nervous tissue

Draw in your notes

What are organs? structures made of different types of tissues that work together to perform a specific function. Examples: Heart Lungs Small intestine Plant Roots Plant Stems Plant Leaves What is an organ system? Groups of organs that work together to perform a specific function. Examples: Digestive system Vascular system in plants A complete, individual living thing. Examples: A single person A single plant A single bacteria What is an organism?
