The March on Washington DC 1963 In 1963, Black leaders decided to march on Washington. It was to be a march for ‘Jobs and Freedom’ and to protest at the slow pace of integration. Other organisations were invited to take part (eg. the National Council of Churches, United Auto Workers and the American Jewish Council) and White marchers were welcomed.
