Changes of State also known as Phase Changes. What are phase changes? Phase changes (changes of state) are the processes of changing from one state of.

Chapter 8 States of Matter. Objective: Describe three states of matter.
Melting Solid  Liquid Energy is added, particles speed up (endothermic) Melting Point: Temp. at which a substance melts Freezing Liquid  Solid Energy.
CHANGES OF STATE.  A change of state is the conversion of a substance from one physical form to another.  All changes of state are physical changes.

Presentation transcript:

Directions for making your Phase Change Foldable Fold a sheet of paper “hotdog”, but unevenly, so that one side is about ½“ longer than the other. Crease carefully.

Carefully, Crease into 5 equal portions along the length Carefully, Crease into 5 equal portions along the length. Each will be about 2 1/5 in wide. Then cut along the top(shorter crease) up to the main fold then stop. You will have formed 5 flaps

Draw your Phase Change diagram on the front on top of the cut surface Draw your Phase Change diagram on the front on top of the cut surface. Make it neat and colorful- with info you’ve studied .

ON FRONT: LABEL ALL DIFFERENT PHASES(STATES) AND DIFFERENT PROCESSES SOLID, LIQUID, GAS, MELTING, VAPORIZATION, CONDENSATION, FREEZING,(& SUBLIMATION) AXES: Vertical - Temperature Horizontal - Time

ON FRONT (shorter flap) Solid Melting

INSIDE: Under each flap write about: ENERGY CONTENT (for each state) AND ENERGY CHANGE (for each process) ENDOTHERMIC OR EXOTHERMIC . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . .. . . . . EACH STATE: PARTICLE ARRANGEMENT, MOTION, AND SPEED FORCES OF ATTRACTION DISTANCE BETWEEN PARTICLES VOLUME, SHAPE, Any other info

Other details… It’s A Quiz grade! Have fun!! Think really well about your notes and write ALL you know! Write your Name!! BE ORGANIZED! Neatness does count! So does spelling!! Use some color, straight lines, neat… Due ___________________ It’s A Quiz grade! Have fun!!
