Trainer support in a classroom may be all that is needed for a positive outcome. If the strategies work, the case is moved to completion and you will only need to monitor to ensure that the strategies are maintained and implemented with integrity.

If, however, after following best practices, implementing strategies recommended by the trainer(s), and following walk through procedures from the student’s class the problem is yet unresolved, then the case study may be brought to the Collaborative Support Panel Meeting.

Representatives from many disciplines, that have been trained in specific areas of expertise, come together to participate in the case study and offer suggestions and develop next steps that can aid staff in helping students be successful.

Collaborative Panel Seating Chart Presenting Panel sits here

Essential Components for Organization Each table will have: Norms/guidelines posted Protocol for case study procedure Note taking sheets for case studies including responsible parties for next steps Day of Panel Schedules at each table protocol for case study procedure

Collaborative Support Panel Norms Treat everyone with respect Be aware of time No technology/phones on silence Be engaged in the current conversation/no side conversations/no busy work One voice needs to be heard at a time All roles are important, but stay “person” focused Ask questions for clarification, allow the team to complete reporting on background information and current interventions first Confidentiality – do not use teacher/staff names Do not dwell on family issues/state pertinent information One laptop will be running a timer

Collaborative Panel Format Background (5 minutes) Current Interventions (5 minutes) Brainstorming (7 minutes) Next Steps (3-5 minutes)

Communication Guidelines Simplified notes of the behavior as it is being talked about, i.e. “HAVEN oversight” No teacher names will be used Focus on student behavior in “Define Behavior” and not include staff or family info No minutes taken during brainstorming session Next steps will be documented
