3 Do Now Think-Pair-Share Think about what you do as a counselor to facilitate CCR at your school Share your idea with your neighbor Write your idea on a post it note for later use in the session

4 Norms Be present and engaged. Be respectful of differences in perspective while challenging each other productively and respectively. Monitor “air time.” Make the most of the time we have. Stay focused on students.

5 Objectives Counselors will Know how to increase their knowledge base of comprehensive PK-5 college & career readiness activities and lessons Counselors will Understand alignment with TEM 2, CLIP, and Destination 2025 Counselors will be able to facilitate a career and college readiness program as a result of this presentation.

6 Context Create early awareness that connects academic performance to getting better grades and attaining grade level promotion. Why it Matters?? Students who gain early and solid foundations as learners are more likely to attain academic and social rewards and are more likely to believe college is a realistic goal. What to measure?? Active and productive engagement in school is one indicator of student aspirations. Relevant data includes attendance, discipline, and promotion. 7 Individual: Planning, Organizing, Implementing and Evaluating How do we focus on the students that need the most help? Review Data Attendance (include S.A.R.T. info.) Promotion/Retention Discipline Academics Plan and Schedule sessions for individuals based on data Work with Classroom teacher Student availability (around core content) Time/number of sessions needed to meet goals Evaluation Use Data to assess impact of our efforts i.e., looking for improvements in attendance/tardies

8 Small Group: Planning, Organizing, Implementing and Evaluating How do we focus on small groups that need the most help? Review Data/teacher parent referral Attendance Promotion/Retention Discipline Academics Plan and Schedule sessions for group/s based on data Determine number of groups needed to meet target g Establish target goals and size of group/s Work with Classroom teacher/staff Student availability (around core content) Time/number of sessions needed to meet goals Evaluation Use Data to assess impact of our efforts i.e., looking for improvements in target area

9 Classroom: Planning, Organizing, Implementing and Evaluating How do we plan high quality classroom lessons? Planning Teacher needs assessments SCS standards/State and National standards TEM Plan and Schedule around school master schedule and common core Determine grade level needs Establish target goals per grade level Work with Classroom teacher/staff Student availability (around core content) Time/number of sessions needed to meet goals Evaluation Use Data to assess impact of our efforts i.e., process, perception, outcome

10 MODELING: INDIVIDUAL Facilitators MODEL individual session with focus on mock data. Individual Planning Sheet shared along with potential lesson plans. Table talk regarding data, individual plan and lesson.

11 MODELING: SMALL GROUP Facilitators MODEL small group session with focus on mock data. Small Group Planning Sheet shared along with potential lesson plans. Table talk regarding data, small group plan and lesson.

12 MODELING: CLASSROOM Facilitators MODEL classroom lesson using technology. Activity aligned with TEM 2 level 5, ASCA Mindset #4 & Behavior Learning strategy #7, CCSS-ELA Grade 3 RI#3.3, CCR Table talk regarding lesson and alignments.
