Process of Photosynthesis

The Reaction

What is the photosynthesis reaction? Where do the reactants come from and where do the products end up? Reactants Carbon Dioxide Water Products Glucose Oxygen

Plant Anatomy Gases in? Gases out? Water from the roots? Glucose from the leaves?

Where in the cell does the process take place?

Chloroplasts are the sites of the photosynthesis reaction

Plant leaves have many types of cells, but only the cells with chloroplasts can do photosynthesis.

Leaf Structure

Photosynthesis takes place in 2 stages Light Reaction Light Independent Reaction (Calvin Cycle)

Analyze the diagram. Light Reaction: Reactants: Products: Light Independent Reaction/Calvin Cycle

Light Reaction More than molecules in and out

Light reaction and light independent reaction Summary Uses light to split water! Makes ATP (will be used as the energy source to build glucose) Makes oxygen (waste)

Revise part of your model Where does the photosynthesis occur? Where does the light reaction occur? Be as specific as you can be. Where does water come from and how is it used? Where does the oxygen come from? What is the role of sunlight in the process of photosynthesis?
