is compulsory - ‘the core’ How Does Key Stage 4 work? 60% of the timetable is compulsory - ‘the core’ Maths English Language English Literature Science (Double award) Physical Education (PE) – Non examination. Personal, Social, Health and Religious Education – Non examination

What choices are there? 40% of the timetable is optional - ‘the choices’

New Progress measures English and Maths count DOUBLE EBacc subjects include Science (Combined or Triple Science) Geography History French Spanish Computer Science

What do I need to know before I start? Your child will study Core History and then have two free choices from the subjects listed on their form. (They will also need to choose two reserve subjects). We will aim to accommodate first choices but there are no promises!

What will students achieve by the end of Year 11? English Language GCSE English Literature GCSE Maths GCSE Science at GCSE (Combined – 2 GCSE’S) or (Triple Science – 3 GCSE’s but counts as one of the options) Core History Free Choice 1 Free Choice 2

What is Core History?

What choices are available? Option Subjects Business Studies/Economics Computer Science Design Technology Triple Science Drama Music Art Dance Geography GCSE PE OCR - Sports Studies Media studies Health and Social care

How do I help my son/daughter make their choices? Read the booklet with them Encourage a discussion – try to get them to talk you! Look at the way the subject is assessed Make sure they ask themselves some important questions What subjects do I need? What subjects do I enjoy? What subjects am I already good at? What do my teachers think? What does the college recommend? What do I want to do?
