Counterculture Movement Turns Violent Why did many in the anti-war movement resort to violence?

Collectives become violent A faction of SDS, called the Weathermen begins violent campaign to end the war and fight for social justice After a failed bombing attempt, group goes underground (Weather Underground) Despite end of war they continue bombing campaign but only government buildings (no civilians) – seek racial & social justice

Violent fight for justice? Militant group called Symbionese Liberation Army (SLA) demanded changes to help the poor Get involved in bank robberies, kidnapping & murder Became famous for kidnapping Patty Hearst and brainwashing her into helping with an SF bank robbery
