Reproduction: Asexual vs. Sexual
Genetics is the study of heredity.. Organisms resemble their parents because they inherit their genetic material from their parents.
Types of Asexual Reproduction
 Sexual Reproduction – type of reproduction in which the genetic materials from two different cells combine, producing an offspring  Sperm – male sex.
Methods of Asexual Reproduction This is what it would look like if humans reproduced by fragmentation!
Reproduction Reproduction is the transfer of genetic material from parent to offspring. Genetic material contains information that controls how a new individual.
Reproductive System 7 th Grade Notes. Vocab Reproduction- the process by which new organisms are produced. It is essential to the continuation of life.
MEIOSIS: The Production of Sex Cells *Click for Animation*
Many organisms reproduce by cell division.
Asexual Reproduction. What is Reproduction?  Reproduction is the process in which organisms produce more of their own kind.  Asexual reproduction occurs.
Comparison Asexual and Sexual Reproduction Number of Parents What do Offspring Look Like? DNA AsexualSexual.
Plant Reproduction. the transfer of genetic material from parent to offspring 2 types = sexual or asexual Reproduction.
Reproduction. Asexual Reproduction –Asexual Reproduction- Process by which a SINGLE organism produces offspring that have the same genetic material. –Binary.
Mitosis vs. Meiosis. What is the difference Mitosis is asexual reproduction. Does not produce a new organism. Mitosis is asexual reproduction. Does not.
Reproduction and Variation. By the end of the lesson, you should be able to:  Describe asexual reproduction.  Describe sexual reproduction.  Explain.
Sexual and Asexual reproduction. A type of reproduction that involves only one parent and produces offspring that are genetically identical to the parent.
Notes: Types of Reproduction ***Key Idea: Genetic information is passed from parents to offspring through CHROMOSOMES. Remember that chromosomes are DNA.
Asexual Reproduction vs. Sexual Reproduction Asexual Reproduction – Diploid cells give rise to identical diploid cells – DNA comes from one parent cell.
ASEXUAL and SEXUAL REPRODUCTION. Reproduction is the process of making offspring from one or two parents.
TYPES OF. ASEXUAL REPRODUCTION Only one parent Offspring all look the same as the parents No variation in the offspring Not good chance of surviving.
SEXUAL AND ASEXUAL REPRODUCTION. A characteristic of living things is that they produce new organisms through the process of reproduction.
Aim: How do organisms reproduce? Who thinks they can define Reproduction? The process by which living things produce other living things like themselves.
Sexual vs. Asexual Reproduction. Extra chromosomes allow all female lizards to reproduce without males  double their chromosomes twice before everything.
Asexual vs. Sexual Reproduction.  Parent cell first copies its DNA  Then divides into 2 separate cells  New cells have a complete copy of parent’s.
What have these animals got in common?. To further our knowledge of reproduction 22 June 2016 Title - Reproduction Class work.
The process of making new individuals (offspring) from existing individuals (parents).
 How many parents are involved in the types of reproduction listed? ◦ Sexual Reproduction ◦ Asexual Reproduction.
A comparison…. Any form of reproduction in which the offspring are genetically identical to the parent A single parent grows a clone or copy of itself.

Presentation transcript:

Asexual vs. Sexual Reproduction

Sexual vs. Asexual Sexual reproduction is the creation of an offspring by fusion of a male gamete (sperm) and female gamete (egg) to form a zygote Asexual reproduction is creation of offspring without the fusion of egg and sperm

Asexual Produces offspring that are genetically identical to their parent A new organism (sometimes more than one) is produced from only one organism. Asexual reproduction = one parent.

Variation Note break: Describe the types of variation that may result from asexual reproduction of a plant. Organisms that reproduce asexually cannot develop much variety, because they are “copying” the original organism exactly.

Asexual The primary form of reproduction for single-celled organisms (ex: bacteria) Many plants and fungi reproduce asexually as well. Some animals reproduce asexually as well (sponges, hydras)
