Data From Pre-Assessment ATLAS Protocol Data From Pre-Assessment

Draw the following chart on a sheet of paper: OBSERVATIONS INTERPRETATIONS IMPLICATIONS

Step #1: Observations (specific) What do you SEE? Only state what can be directly found on the data sheet. For example: I only got 50% of the questions correct. Or I did not master any standard. I got 1 out of 3 correct in the “Depth of Knowledge: 3- Strategic Thinking” area.

Step #2: Interpretations What does the data SUGGEST? What are the assumptions I can make about my learning? What are the assumptions I can make about my thinking during this test? For example: I did not understand the “Awakening” passage. Or I do not understand how to find the central idea of a text. I do not understand how to interpret the author’s point of view. I understand the meaning of words and phrases as they are used in a text.

Step #3: Implications (big picture) What are the implications of this work for teaching and learning this year? What is the “take away” from this data? What instructional steps could I take next with you? What does this conversation make you think about in terms of your own learning? About teaching and learning in general? For example: I need to work on reading comprehension. Or I need to focus on how to understand author point of view. I need to spend time this semester practicing figurative language using USA Test Prep & through annotations.

Reflection: (Please keep this on the same sheet of paper that you completed the ATLAS protocol on.) In 10-12 sentences, reflect on areas of improvement for this year; areas you have already mastered; and some academic goals you’d like to set for yourself. Were you pleased with your pre-assessment grade? Did you take it seriously? Why or why not? Is there something in particular you want to focus on this year? (i.e. writing, figurative language, etc.) Please write in complete sentences using the CEI paragraph structure.
