Forms and Transformations ENERGY: Forms and Transformations

The ability to cause change or do work. ENERGY is… The ability to cause change or do work.

The Law of Conservation of Energy States that energy cannot be created nor destroyed, it only changes forms.

FORMS OF ENERGY: Mechanical: energy that moves an object. Sound: energy caused by vibrations

Chemical: energy stored in chemical bonds. Thermal (heat): energy from the movement of molecules.

Electromagnetic: transmitted through space in the form of waves 7 TYPES: Radio waves Microwaves Infrared radiation Visible light Ultraviolet rays X-rays Gamma rays

Energy Transformations… Occur when energy changes from one form to another.

MATCH: chemical energy → electromagnetic energy → thermal energy Examples: TV: electrical energy→ electromagnetic energy → sound energy → thermal energy CAR: chemical energy → mechanical energy → sound energy → thermal energy LIGHT BULB: electrical energy → electromagnetic energy → thermal energy MATCH: chemical energy → electromagnetic energy → thermal energy

YOUR TURN!! Name the energy transformations below!! Cooking on the stove Running Growing flowers Phone charging
