Objective: To analyze rhetoric English 10 Honors Day 36 Objective: To analyze rhetoric You will need your copy of Julius Caesar today. Please make sure you have it with you.

For your timed writing tomorrow, you will analyze the rhetoric of an argument. What is rhetoric? The effective use of language to convince an audience What might you look at when analyzing a speaker’s rhetoric?

What rhetorical techniques work best on Brutus? Why? What rhetorical techniques would work best on Caesar? Why?

Below is a prompt similar to the one you will answer next class Below is a prompt similar to the one you will answer next class. Read it and break down everything you will need to include in your answer. Show your understanding of the prompt by either listing information you need to include or annotating the prompt. Read the excerpts carefully. Then write an essay in which you analyze the rhetoric of both arguments and explain why the audience finds one argument more persuasive. You may want to consider such elements as choice of detail, use of appeals, and understanding of audience.

Switch prompts with another group and critique their work. Pair up. You will get a writing prompt similar to the one you will work with tomorrow. With your partner, generate a thesis statement and outline to answer the prompt. Switch prompts with another group and critique their work. Is the thesis statement clear? Does the information completely answer the prompt? If they were to write the essay, does it appear that they would have textual evidence to support their thesis?
