Magnet Controls K. Luchini Requirements Technical Interface Interface Control System Architecture Hardware Software Schedule Budget 1

Requirements Magnet Power Supplies Stability Correctors: 0.1% of maximum current (e.g. 10e-3, 1000ppm) Bends: 0.05-0.1% of maximum current. System must operate over 30degC temp range in Linac gallery Existing Magnets Many SLC magnets will be turned off during LCLS operations Quad splits in LI21 & 24 - reconfigure quad strings for two modes LCLS & SLC Magnet Correctors with Feedback Max rate up to 120Hz. Most ff correctors will have a rate of 10Hz Must use the EPICS Fast Feedback system Limit Family of PS for ease of maintenance and to reduced cost Magnet Interlocks including Ground fault protection will be provided Redundant current read back for large and intermediate power supplies Switching between LCLS mode and SLC must not exceed 15 minutes

System Interface Control Fast feedback – S. Allison Max rate of 120Hz 5 milliseconds to set magnet B-field 1 millisecond to return DAC read back status Use dedicated network Timing System for synchronization (ioc’s with fast feedback only) Machine Protection System – S. Norum Report Power Supply status to MPS All bends and some quads PPS – P. Bong (none) All magnets electrical connections covered to comply with SLAC, National Electric Code and OSHA regulations. Alleviates need for access interlocks.

THE END!

Slide courtesy of Dave Schultz (Jan 24, 2006) Linac Power Supplies Increase in magnet power supply count due to magnets: 1) listed in the original MAD Deck and missed in the original WBS, 2) known but not listed in the original MAD Deck and therefore not listed in the original WBS, 3) that were added and 4) power supplies that were replaced in order to reach stability requirements for LCLS. This BCR is for the full Linac, per our best current estimate, representing a significant analysis Bob Fuller, Kristi Luchini, Carl Rago, Paul Bellomo, Paul Emma, Eric Bong Slide courtesy of Dave Schultz (Jan 24, 2006)

Slide courtesy of Dave Schultz (Jan 24, 2006) Linac Power Supplies Need to draw these funds up from Contingency. No milestone impact Accurate installation schedule (improvement) Potential savings in the Undulator power supply system Need to check rack space, cabling, inst, … prior to issuing that BCR Slide courtesy of Dave Schultz (Jan 24, 2006)
