SALARY New Faculty Continuing Faculty 1/30th Rate (2007-2008 AY) Enrollment Based Compensation 1/30th Rate (2007-2008 AY) New Faculty – See 2457 Range on slide 9 for faculty that have not worked at CSUN. Current Faculty – Or faculty that have worked at CSUN in Fall 2007 and/or Spring 2008 are paid on a 1/30th rate. Academic Student Employees Rates & Ranges in Processing Guide

Salary / New Faculty Class Range Class Title Min Salary Max Salary 2457 1 INSTRUCTIONAL FACULTY, SUMMER SESSION - STATE SUPPORT $974.00 $3,516.00 Pleas ensure that the rate you key into the Summer Hiring Module is the rate you wish to pay the new faculty member per unit. See how that rate compares to other AY faculty. 9

Salary / Current Faculty Faculty who held a Fall 2007 and/or Spring 2008 appointment (2360, 2361, 2358, 2359, and 2481) will be paid at the “1/30th rate” calculated according to the following formula: (FT AY Salary/30) = 1/30th Unit Rate x (# Summer WTUs) = Total Pay Amount Example: A faculty member with a (full-time) monthly base of $7,109 teaching one 3 unit course in any summer session would earn $8,532 for that course: ($7,109 x 12 = $85,308/ 30) = $2,844 x (3WTU) = $8,532.00 (Monthly base x 12 /30) = Unit Rate x # WTU = Salary Continuing Faculty, those who taught at least one semester in 2007-2008 are to be paid using the 1/30th formula. The module will populate the AY base. A faculty member can withdraw from a low enrolled course at the second class meeting. The MOU does allow for a class to be taught if low enrolled. The MOU allows for a 5% reduction for each student below 15. However, the minimum amount paid cannot be lower than 85%. New faculty are to be hired at the appropriate rate from the Summer Salary Schedule.

Salary / Low Enrollment Classes for Summer 2008 that are low enrolled are subject to compensation based enrollment. A faculty member’s salary is to be reduced by 5% for each student below, to a maximum reduction of 15%. If a course has an enrollment of: > 15 Students = 100% Salary 14 Students = 95% Salary [multiply unit rate by 1.05] 13 Students = 90% Salary [multiply unit rate by 1.10] < 12 Students = 85% Salary [multiply unit rate by 1.15] A 15 percent reduction is the greatest a faculty member’s unit rate can be reduced. If the course to which a faculty unit employee has been assigned has enrollmen t of fewer than fifteen (15) students, at the second class meeting, s/he may withdraw from the appointment at that time, or the class may be cancelled. Example: Barry Jones has a Summer base unit rate of $2,636 and 14 Students enrolled in his Summer Session 1 class worth 3 units, at Census on 7/22/08: $2,636 /1.05 = $2,510 x 3 WTU = $7,530 11

Salary / ASE’s Summer appointed Academic Student Employees are to be hired within the following ranges in effect since October, 2007: Teaching Associates – 12 month: Job Code 2353 $2,103 to $5,008 per month Graduate Assistants – Monthly: Job Code 2325 * $1,774 to $2,789 per month Instructional Student Assistants: Job Code 1150 $10.00 to $16.42 per hour 12

APPOINTMENTS & LETTERS Unit 3 Faculty May Be Conditional Unit 11 TAs & GAs May NOT Be Conditional / 14 Days Unit 11 ISAs May Be Conditional / 14 Days Appointments for Unit 3 faculty may be conditional on budget and enrollment. Classes may be cancelled. But faculty will need to be paid for classes met before cancellation (even the first class meeting). Faculty must receive an offer letter. The template will be posted on our website. TA & GA appointments cannot be conditional. Appointment letters (and job descriptions) must be offered, allowing 14 days to accept or decline the appointment. ISA appointments can be conditional (letters & job descriptions necessary w/ 14 days notice). TA and GA appointments are not conditional unless part of an original appointment (if they were already on a 2353 or 2325 job code). ISA appointments may be conditioned on budget and enrollment. TAs, GAs and ISAs all need appointment/offer letters that give them 14 days to respond. Those templates are on the Faculty Affairs web page. Don’t forget job descriptions and criteria for evaluation if they are going to be evaluated. TAs/GAs would need a different assignment or be paid out. ISAs are to be paid for assigned hours prior to cancellation. 13
