What is energy? Energy is in everything. Energy is what helps us to do everything from riding a bike or baking cookies to brushing our teeth at night. Energy can be stored (potential) or it can be working (kinetic) There are many forms of energy, and energy is changed between those forms to help us in different ways.

Converting Energy Most energy is converted, or changed, from one form into another. Here are some examples of energy conversions: Usage Original Form Converted Explanation Lamp Electric Energy Radiant Electricity turns into radiant (light) energy when the filament in a light bulb lights up.

Nuclear fission uses uranium to create energy. NUCLEAR ENERGY Nuclear fission uses uranium to create energy. Nuclear energy is a nonrenewable resource because once the uranium is used, it is gone!

COAL, PETROLEUM, AND GAS Coal, petroleum, and natural gas are considered nonrenewable because they can not be replenished in a short period of time. These are called fossil fuels.
