SHINGLES By: kris smith

Stage 1 Anyone who's had chickenpox may develop shingles. It isn't known what reactivates the virus.

Stage 1 syntoms

Shingles causes a painful rash that may appear as a stripe of blisters on the trunk of the body. Pain can persist even after the rash is gone (this is called postherpetic neuralgia).

Stage 2

Early signs of shingles include tingling and localized pain Early signs of shingles include tingling and localized pain. Most, but not all, people with shingles develop a blistering rash. You may also experience itching, burning, or deep pain. Typically, the shingles rash lasts two to four weeks, and most people make a complete recovery.

Stage 3

Most cases of shingles last 3 to 5 weeks Most cases of shingles last 3 to 5 weeks. Shingles follows a pattern: The first sign is often burning or tingling pain sometimes, it includes numbness or itching on one side of the body. Somewhere between 1-5 days after the tingling or burning feeling on the skin, a red rash will appear

How to avoid shingles To prevent shingles, adults who are 60 years old and older should receive the shingles vaccine.

How it works After the chickenpox runs its itchy course, the virus retreats to nerve tissues near your spinal cord and brain, where it hides out. Doctors don't know why, but sometimes the virus “wakes up” and travels along nerve fibers to your skin.

The End ANY QUESTIONS?
