3 Ringworm Fungal infections on the skin Can affect skin on the body, scalp, groin area (jock itch), and feet (athlete’s foot) Is contagious by direct skin contact or contaminated items (such as a comb) Itchy, red, raised, scaly patches that may blister and ooze Cure: over-the-counter antifungal or drying powders, lotions, and creams

4 Impetigo Blisters or sores on the face, neck, hands, and diaper area Caused by bacteria 2 types of impetigo: - Bullous Impetigo (large blisters) - Non-Bullous Impetigo (crusted) Treated by antibiotic ointment

5 Thrush Thrush is an infection of the mouth caused by yeast Yeast is present in the mouth, digestive tract, and skin of most healthy people A common sign of thrush is the presence of creamy white, slightly raised lesions in your mouth Treatment: Antifungal medications

6 Measles Highly contagious The measles rash typically has a red or reddish brown blotchy appearance First usually shows up on the forehead, then spreads downward over the face, neck, and body, then down to the arms and feet. Treatment: plenty of fluids and extra rest

7 Scabies Scabies is a very itchy skin condition caused by tiny mites that burrow into your skin Female mites burrow into the skin, creating small, threadlike tunnels The mites lay eggs and leave feces in these tunnels Treatment: special cream or lotion that a doctor prescribes

8 Mumps Caused by a virus, usually through saliva The salivary glands become swollen and painful Glands are found toward the back of each cheek, between the ear and jaw Vaccines are available to prevent it Usually happens to kids between 5 and 14

9 Diaper Rash Why it happens: - the skin is irritated by soiled diapers that are left on for too long - friction from the diaper; - or certain brands of detergent - soaps, or baby wipes on sensitive skin. Baby's skin to become sore, red, scaly, and tender Treatment: Creams and ointments (lasts 2-3 days)
