Lesson 3.8 – Mind Mapping To improve performance Exercise 1 – Mind Maps In a few minutes you are going to look at a mind map of the body – things you would do to look after it. Before this, with a partner, you have 5 minutes to list all the things that you might include – just make a list of everything you can think of that would help you keep your body healthy. Now try to group these into different sections that you would put together to help you remember. Copyright of Developing Potential 2011

Lesson 3.8 – Mind Mapping To improve performance Exercise 1 – Mind Maps Now with your partner look at the mind map of the body. Compare this to the list and sections you have created. Looking at the mind map try and remember the information it contains. Discuss with your partner how the information is structured and then in pairs try and replicate the information into your own mind map of the body. Try and do this without looking at the body mind map. Copyright of Developing Potential 2011

Exercise 2 – My First Mind Map Lesson 3.8 – Mind Mapping To improve performance Exercise 2 – My First Mind Map You are going to create your first mind map – ‘All About Me’ This will allow a stranger to know all about you, including the following: FAMILY SCHOOLING HOBBIES DREAMS HOME / WHERE I LIVE ME – WHERE BORN, FEATURES, STAR SIGN, ETC. You will need: A range of coloured pencils or pens Plain paper (Landscape) Review the top tips for completing a mind map on your worksheet Copyright of Developing Potential 2011

Mind Maps: Top Tips Lesson 3.8 – Mind Mapping To improve performance Start in the centre of the page with an image of the topic. Make the lines the same length as the word/image. Use at least 3 colours in your mind map. Use colours – create your own code or key – throughout the mind map. Use images, symbols, codes, shapes and different sizes throughout your mind map. Develop your own personal style of mind mapping. Select key words and print using upper or lower case letters. Link ideas together using dotted lines if the connection is weak and thicker and solid if strong. Each word/image must be alone and sitting on its own line. And remember: The lines must be connected, starting from the central image. The central lines are thicker, organic and flowing, becoming thinner as they radiate out from the centre. A picture speaks a thousand words! Symbols and shapes can replace words Humour helps! Copyright of Developing Potential 2011
