Study of Hebrews Lesson 8

Hebrews 3:1-6 3:1 Therefore, holy brethren, partakers of a heavenly calling, consider Jesus, the Apostle and High Priest of our confession; 2 He was faithful to Him who appointed Him, as Moses also was in all His house. 3 For He has been counted worthy of more glory than Moses, by just so much as the builder of the house has more honor than the house.

Hebrews 3:1-6 4 For every house is built by someone, but the builder of all things is God. 5 Now Moses was faithful in all His house as a servant, for a testimony of those things which were to be spoken later; 6 but Christ was faithful as a Son over His house — whose house we are, if we hold fast our confidence and the boast of our hope firm until the end.

Hebrews 3:1 3:1 Therefore, holy brethren, partakers of a heavenly calling, consider Jesus, the Apostle and High Priest of our confession; Notice that the author still calls them Christians – they aren’t lost yet! Think about Jesus – who happens to be the Apostle and High Priest of our confession How is He the Apostle of our confession? What about the High Priest of our confession?

Hebrews 3:2 2 He was faithful to Him who appointed Him, as Moses also was in all His house. Consider Jesus – okay, what exactly are we supposed to consider about Him? His faith to God! He did EXACTLY what God wanted Him to do Just as Moses was in His (whose?) house? Did Moses do everything God asked of him?

Hebrews 3:3 3 For He has been counted worthy of more glory than Moses, by just so much as the builder of the house has more honor than the house. Jesus is more worthy of glory than Moses In what way(s)? Moses is the house, but Jesus is the builder of the house

Hebrews 3:4 4 For every house is built by someone, but the builder of all things is God. What does this verse mean? Why is it important that every house is built by someone, but God built everything?

Hebrews 3:5 5 Now Moses was faithful in all His house as a servant, for a testimony of those things which were to be spoken later; Moses was a servant (or slave) in the house What does it mean when the author writes, “…for a testimony of those things which were to be spoken later”?

Hebrews 3:6 6 but Christ was faithful as a Son over His house — whose house we are, if we hold fast our confidence and the boast of our hope firm until the end. Moses was a servant, Jesus is the Son! There’s no contest in who has the more prominent position (i.e., Jesus is superior to Moses)

Hebrews 3:6 6 but Christ was faithful as a Son over His house — whose house we are, if we hold fast our confidence and the boast of our hope firm until the end. Jesus is the Son of the house – but who’s the house? What’s the condition placed upon this?
