The Basics Advanced Placement Program (AP) allows motivated high school students to prepare and write university level exams while still in high school AP courses reflect what is taught in many introductory university courses In addition to the Ministry mandated final exam for a specific course, students may write an AP Exam - a standardized exam that measures how well students have mastered university-level course work
The Basics Students who do well on AP Exams may earn credit and/or placement into advanced courses in university Credit: Students may earn credit toward their university degrees Advanced placement: Students may skip introductory courses and move directly into higher-level classes, and/or fulfill general education requirements

What are Pre-AP Courses/Programs? Pre-AP courses/program follow the Ontario Curriculum but at the same time demand more of students than regular academic/university level high school courses Classes are rigorous and cover more material More time, inside and outside of the classroom, is required to complete lessons, assignments and homework
What are Pre-AP Courses/Programs? Students are expected to think critically, analyze and synthesize facts and data, weigh competing perspectives, and write clearly and persuasively Emphasis is on inquiry-based learning, problem solving techniques and critical thinking Teachers at Mother Teresa are trained to help students acquire the skills, concepts and habits of mind necessary for success on AP Exams
Pre-AP Courses/Programs Offered at MTS for 2019/20 Grade 9 - English, Mathematics, Science(biology) Grade 10 - English, Mathematics, Science(biology) Grade 11 - English, Mathematics, Biology Grade 12 – English, Mathematics, Biology Students may choose one, two or all three areas of study each year The program is very flexible and allows for varied entry and exit points
Assessment and Evaluation Pre-AP students complete the same expectations and final exam as students in the corresponding academic level course Formative assessments in the course/program (assignments, tests, quizzes, etc.) will include academic/university level and Pre-AP/AP content

Registration Information Pre-AP Application Forms will be made available as part of the MTS Registration package Packages will be delivered to feeder-school students the 1st week of January For all other interested students, registration packages will be handed out at the January 9th, 2019 MTS Open House or can be picked up in the Guidance Office after this date
Pre-AP Selection (Grade 9) AP Selection committee will consider the following components: Grade 8 Report Card #1 (January 2019) Grade 8 Learning Skills Teacher Reference and Student Reflection (on application form)
Notes There is a $150 annual program fee per student in Grade 9 to cover the cost of resources, enrichment opportunities and professional development. For students residing out of the MTS boundary, transportation is not guaranteed but bussing may be requested via our existing French Immersion Bus routes.
