Presentation Outline - Global Aviation Industry Market - Aviation Industry Eco-System - Challenges in Training Aviation Industry Professionals - Solutions - Summary

Global Aviation Industry Market Aviation industry is: - a creator of employment opportunities - an economic engine - generates the economic growth globally - a tourism and trade facilitator - transporter of goods and services

Global Aviation Industry Market - Aviation remains a large and growing industry for the years to come. - Air Transportation is the safest means of travel. - Major goal of FAA and Airline industry is the passenger safety. This can be achieved by means of proper training of various Aviation Professionals at different levels of employment and operation.

Global Aviation Industry Market - Over $2.96 trillion annual economy in (2017) - Over 36 million flights - Over 3 billion passengers - Over 29 million jobs This is done by means of: - 900 Airline companies - Having a fleet of 22,000 aircrafts and 1,670 airports

Global Aviation Industry Market Air transportation includes: - Aviation Category Airline and Airports, General Aviation, Air Navigation, Service Providers, Air Freights Civil Aerospace Category Manufacturing, Maintenance, Frames and Engine

Aviation Eco-System: The Supply Chain Direct and in-direct professionals - Aircraft designers, developers and manufacturers and parts suppliers Airline personnel including pilots, co-pilots, flight attendants, and support crew - Airport personnel and support staff - Catering, kitchen staff and food suppliers

Aviation Eco-System Break down of 29 million jobs 5 million direct jobs (4.3 M in Airline & Airport, & 700K in the Civil Aerospace Category) - 5.8 million in-direct jobs (purchase of goods & services for companies in its supply chain) - 2.7 million in-direct jobs (through supporting the industry employees) - 15.5 million direct and in-direct jobs (in support of tourism)

Pilots and Co-Pilots Critical Personnel

Flight Attendants Critical Personnel

Maintenance Personnel Critical Personnel

Socially and Environmentally Responsible Industry - Reduced fuel consumption (50% more efficient engines compared to several years ago) - Reduced Pollution (reduction of oxides and nitrogen by 80%) - Reduced Engine Noise (by 70% compared to 20 years ago)

Demand for Pilots in the US - US Airlines need to hire 60,000 pilots by 2025 to replace retiring pilots. - US Airlines, including cargo, charter and regional carriers, together currently employ 96,000 pilots, and will need more than 65,000 pilots in the next eight years.

Worldwide Demand for Commercial Pilots According to Boeing Company, demand for Pilots by 2035 is about 637,000, from which: - Asia 253,000 - North America 117,000 - Europe 106,000 - Middle East 63,000 - Latin America 52,000 - Africa 24,000 - Russia 22,000

Airline Market Share on China-Australia Flights

China’s Air Transport Plans - The Civil Aviation Administration of China projects China’s Air Transport growth at 11.4 % through 2016-2020. - According to the International Air and Transport Association (IATA), China will become the world’s largest passenger and cargo market by 2030. - Under the 13th Five-Year plan 2016-2020, china will build 260 airports to serve 90% of the population by 2020.

Boeing and Airbus Plans for Aircraft Delivery 38,000 in the next 20 years Worth $5.6 billion Airbus 32,600 in the next 16 years 40% of these plans are for Airlines in Asia Need Many Pilots!

Challenges in Training Aviation Industry Personnel - Cost of Training - Dedicated Time for Training - Availability of Aircraft and Certified Flight Instructors (CFI) - Lack of proper training procedures

Pilot Training Possible ways to become an Airline Pilot: Earn a Bachelor of Science degree with part 141 flight training and gain 1,000 flight hours Take flying lessons under part 61 and gain over 1,500 flight hours Universities are graduating insufficient number of Aviation Program graduates with Commercial pilot certificates. Possible Solution: Encourage female students to pursue a pilot career opportunity. The current percentage of female pilots is about 7% but trend for the future approached 20% in the next 7 to 10 years

Increase Qualified Pilots in Recruiting Females

Primary Sources of Aircraft Accidents Most aviation accidents are due to human errors. Failure to maintain professionalism is a major concern for pilots. Pilots should have a full time awareness regarding flight conditions. Plain biases imply that pilots should be sensitive to safety issues at all times.

Mechanical Problems In Air Transportation Mechanical problems usually result in safety concerns and aviation monitoring agencies such as the FAA recommend maximum attention to such issues. Safety and experienced aircraft maintenance engineers resolve such problems. These professionals should be trained and certified.

Education, Skills and Experience Safe maintenance of an aircraft requires continuous education and awareness. Safety training provides workers and flight engineers on the techniques to avoid accidents. Safety training consists of basic practice and experience considering the rapid technology changes.

Air Traffic Control and Dispatch Two other critical professional positions in keeping air transportation safe are: Air Traffic Controllers - Tower, TRACON, ARTCC/FIR Dispatch Personnel - Flight Planning, Aviation Weather

Top 5 Training and Development Challenges 1. Have knowledgeable Instructors 2. Provide up-to-date Training Materials 3. Improving learning effectiveness through practice and Experience 4. Provide Education with emphasis on Experience 5. Deliver consistent training across a global organization

Solution - Develop proper training programs and documents - Provide incentives for aviation industry professionals in maintaining up-to-date training - Improve communications among training personnel - Improve FAA training curricula - Emphasize practice to gain skills - Establish cost-effective training programs

Summary - Air transportation is the safest means of travel - the key personnel in the air transportation eco- system are the pilots, flight attendants and ground crew, in particular, mechanics and inspectors play a vital role in maintaining safe aircrafts. - Develop cost-effective training program to remove the associated stress in taking training courses.
