Division Basics The job of division is to split things into equal groups. 9 ÷ 3 = 3

Division is also repeated subtraction. 9 ÷ 3 = 3

Other symbols used for division:

Dividend - The number being split up. Divisor - The number of groups. Quotient - The answer to a division problem. Example:

Fact Families: Division is the opposite (inverse) of multiplication. Problems that are the inverse of each other are said to be in a family. 4 x 3 = 12 3 x 4 = 12 12 ÷ 3 = 4 12 ÷ 4 = 3

Practice: 56 ÷ 7 = 48 ÷ 6 = 72 ÷ 9 = 64 ÷ 8 = 35 ÷ 7 = 12 ÷ 12 =
