2 Division Vocabulary Dividend – The number being divided.
Divisor – The number that is dividing the dividend. Quotient – The answer of a division problem. Remainder – The number left over when a dividend cannot be divided equally. Quotient Remainder Divisor Dividend

3 Friendly Numbers Break down a division problem into easier numbers to work with. Think: 10 times the divisor and subtract. This will give you your two friendly numbers. Divide the friendly numbers by the divisor. Add the two friendly number quotients together to get your quotient.

4 Example 1 75 divided by 5 equals________ 50 and 25
(friendly parts of 75) = 15 75 divided by 5 equals_15_____

5 Example 2 87 divided by 6 equals________ 60 and 27
(friendly parts of 87) r3 = 14 r3 87 divided by 6 equals_14 r3_____

6 Example 3 124 divided by 8 equals________ 80 and 44
