Owning Your Own Engagement (1 minute) Engagement is the responsibility of all. The organization, your leaders, and you have a role to drive your personal engagement. We’re going to do an exercise to get you thinking about ways you can own your own engagement. PROPRIETARY & CONFIDENTIAL

Recall the Six Boxes© (1 minute) Recall the Six Boxes ©. Your engagement is Box 6 – Motives & Preferences. PROPRIETARY & CONFIDENTIAL

✔ ✔ ✔ ✔ ✔ Recall the Six Boxes© (2 minutes) When boxes 1-5 are managed well: You know what’s expected of you, your role, goals, and contributions are clear. Your manager gives you feedback for how you are performing. You have the tools and resources you need to do your job. You have access to SMEs, processes and technology to increase your personal effectiveness. You know how your work connects to the broader organizational goals – why what you do matters. You are rewarded for a job well done. You have the skills & knowledge you need to do your job well. You have access to training and performance support tools. You are a good match for the role. You bring the right characteristics and experience to the table to be effective. When all these elements (5 boxes) are aligned, you are more likely to be engaged and have a positive orientation. PROPRIETARY & CONFIDENTIAL

✗ ✗ ✗ ✗ ✗ Recall the Six Boxes© (1 minute) Conversely, when boxes 1-5 are NOT managed well, you are more likely to be less engaged and have a negative orientation. PROPRIETARY & CONFIDENTIAL

Analyze A-B-C 1 2 3 Expectations & Feedback Tools & Resources Consequences & Incentives Do I know what’s expected of me? Does my leader give me feedback on my performance? Do I have the right tools and resources to perform? What happens when I do well? What happens when I don’t? 4 5 6 Skills & Knowledge Selection & Assignment Motives & Preferences Inhibits Supports Do I have the right skills and knowledge to perform? Do I have the right characteristics for my role? Am I capable? Do I want to do this work? Do I enjoy my work? (10 minutes) Spend the next 10 minutes analyzing boxes 1-5. What’s happening within each box that’s affecting your engagement. Think of both things that are driving your engagement, and things that are inhibiting your engagement. Jot down your thoughts on the scratchpad. Mark those items that are supporting your engagement with a plus sign. Designate engagement inhibitors with a minus sign. You have 10 minutes for this activity. [Pass out the scratchpads.] PROPRIETARY & CONFIDENTIAL

Brainstorm & Choose A-B-C Share your analysis Brainstorm how to mitigate the negatives in each box Circle 1-3 ideas you personally commit to doing (30 minutes) With your team, briefly share your analysis, then as a group, brainstorm ideas of how to mitigate the negatives in each box. Jot them down on the scratchpad. When done, circle 1-3 items you personally commit to doing in the upcoming weeks. Look for team themes where actions can be shared. PROPRIETARY & CONFIDENTIAL
